Welcome to the Spanish Civil War group build. There are so many model kits to build that it can be at times hard to choose one. Certain model builders get into a funk after a long time, and while they may have plenty of fun building a certain kit, they put it off and put it off, waiting for an excuse to build it. This group build is designed to narrow the focus of kits being built from "infinite -- any plane ever made" down to "specific -- those that participated in the Spanish Civil War". After the first World War, the aviation industry of the world went into overdrive. However, it leapt foward in such huge strides that it often stumbled over its own feet. There were many radical new designs out just before World War 2. Such novel ideas as all-metal skin, mono-plane design, and closed cockpits, may seem common place to us now but at the time they were wonderous! This end of the golden age of flight came to a head during the Spanish Civil War, where the war tearing apart Spain was used as a test bed by many aircraft designers of many different nations. Their hypothetically "modern" planes now had a chance to perform in real combat. The results were astonishing at times. Perplexing at others. Add to this the fact that many of the successful aircraft were modified and then became key players in the saga of World War 2, and you have one of the more captivating times of aviation history! Come, join us as we explore the heights of 1930s airpower! To join the group build simply e-mail me and supply the following information:
The group build will continue until late July. July 17th (Sunday) will be the last day to enter any new or additional kits. July 31st (Sunday) will be the final deadline for all submissions. August 7th (Sunday) will be the date on which all ARC write-ups shall be submitted (all on the same day). PrizesAs an added incentive and as a type of tradition for group builds, there will be a raffle at the final deadline to determine which participants receive prizes. The prizes are a way of thanking people for joining the group build in the first place, and an incentive to finish the build (for those slow model builders) because only those that actually complete their model(s) will be entered in the raffle! You must finish at least one model that you have entered into this group build. Each person who does this will have their name entered into the raffle. Names will be pulled at random. The prize list consists (so far) of: Kits Revell 1/72 He 115 C-1 (MISB) Decals Gloster Gladiator in foreign service 1/72 2 sheets Fi-156 Storch (Bulgaria, Luftwaffe ambulance, captured RAF) 1/72 1 sheet Fi-156 Storch (Swiss, 2 Luftwaffe options) 1/72 1 sheet Fi-156 Storch (Swiss) 1/32 1 sheet Finnish AF (Buffalo, Ju-88) 1/48 2 sheets Cockpit Gauges 1 each of 1/72 and 1/48 ENTRIES
